Images: Bournemouth EchoTWO men armed with a razor-type knife threatened a taxi driver after stealing his takings while he helped an elderly lady. Police have released CCTV of their suspects after an incident in Poole just after 10.50am on Tuesday, March 26.
The victim was helping his fare, an elderly woman who uses a walking aid, out of the car at the train station end of the Falkland Square walk-through.
Two men then walked up to the taxi while the driver was busy with his passenger.
One of the men bent down by the driver’s door and took a money bag containing around £400 from inside the car.
They then made off.
Once the victim had noticed what had happened, he followed them through the Dolphin Centre, out into Kingland Crescent and through the bus depot yard.
As he continued to follow, the second man turned around and threatened the victim with a knife.
Both offenders walked off toward the Holiday Inn on Walking Field Lane and as they approached the corner by the hotel, the first man attempted to punch the victim.
The same man then threatened the driver with a razor-type blade.
The victim, a local man aged in his 40s, was not physically injured.
PC Simon Shaw, of Dorset Police, called for anyone with information to come forward.
“This was a frightening incident for the victim,” he said.
“As part of my enquiries I am now in a position to issue CCTV images of two suspects.”
Anyone who recognises the men in the CCTV, or those with information about the incident, should contact Dorset Police by visiting dorset.police.uk or calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55190045403.
Kevin Holmes, chairman of the Bournemouth Taxi Trade Association, has previously called for CCTV to be installed in all Bournemouth cabs.
He made the plea after two drivers were allegedly robbed at knifepoint in the early hours of the morning in December near St Clement’s Church in Boscombe.
A Wimborne man has since appeared in court in connection with the alleged robberies.
He was remanded into custody.
