Aggressive taxi driver was not 'fit and proper' to hold licence

https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/n ... d-licence/

A TAXI driver whose licence was revoked for inappropriate behaviour has had his appeal against a council's decision overturned.

Shabir Hanif's licence was revoked after Hyndburn Borough Council heard concerns about him failing to allow inspectors to look at his vehicle.

The 38-year-old was also alleged to have been aggressive towards the inspectors and to have parked in an illegal and hazardous manner.

His licence was revoked in April 2018 but shortly after Mr Hanif lodged an appeal with Blackburn Magistrates Court against the decision where it was upheld.

But the council then appealed that decision to Preston Crown Court a Judge allowed the Council’s appeal against the magistrates decision and upheld the original decision of the Councils Judicial Committee.

The Judge confirmed that the Council’s Judicial Committee had made the correct decision and that Mr Hanif was not a ‘fit and proper’ person to hold a private hire drivers licence.

Council Leader, Cllr Miles Parkinson, said: "The safety of the travelling public is paramount. We take the safety of passengers very seriously and require high standards for all taxi drivers.

"We will always take action when they fail to meet those standards and breach the conditions of their licences."

Interesting comment left on the website - reminds me of the mobile phone guy in the Skyline piece Sussex just posted - I mean, even if you're the type who uses a mobile phone at the wheel, couldn't you at least try to make it less obvious? ](*,)

There needs to be a crackdown on the standard of driving of some taxi drivers in Hyndburn. I would doubt some have passed a British driving test. The traffic police should just spend a little time observing the driving. I also have had to speak to drivers talking on their mobile which was on their lap while driving. Some of them are so bad mannered they don't even speak to you when you have completed the journey, They just raise fingers for the amount, So I insist they speak or they won't be paid. Some of these drivers need to be retested and questioned on the customer care, the law or simply have their licence removed.

Interesting thing about raising the fingers as well - I thought that normally meant something else :-s

But must be difficult at times if it's a big fare, but maybe they just work to the nearest pound rather than the one pences on the likes of the Dundee meters [-(
