There's some poor quality photos and a video on the Daily Mail's website, but I couldn't get the video to load properly, but from what I can see there's no sound and only subtitles, or maybe there is sound and the subtitles have just been added for, er, translation purposes

But interesting that the story seems to have gone straight to the Daily Mail's website rather than appearing in the local press first, which seems to be the normal way of these things.

But the images are marked 'Deadline News', which I think is a news agency, so video probably hawked around the papers looking for the highest bidder, and that's probably the reason it's also been removed from Facebook - £££££££££

Obviously not a good look for the trade, though, but what's the betting the video only shows one side of the story rather than what led up to it? [-X

Taxi driver holds a female passenger by the wrist and refuses to let go as he argues with her about payment while holding a 'tyre wrench'

    • The video was filmed in Glasgow on Friday night after a dispute over payment
    • The two women insist they will pay the driver once he lets go off her wrist
    • The video was seen more than 200,000 times before it was removed

A Glasgow taxi driver arguing with a young woman about payment held her by the wrist and wouldn't let her go as she pleaded: 'Let go of me.'

Moments later, footage shows the driver holding what appears to be a tyre wrench, causing the woman filming to scream: 'He's got a crowbar.'

The video was filmed on Friday night following a dispute over payment between the two young women and their driver.

The footage was posted with the caption: 'We were picked up and took to where we were going.

'When about to leave the taxi and pay, the driver he grabbed me and wouldn't let go of my arm, telling us that until we paid he wasn't going to let go of me.

'We had told him multiple times that we were trying to pay the fare.'

Before being removed from Facebook, the footage had been watched more than 200,000 times.

The footage begins with a woman sitting in a taxi as a taxi driver is holding on to her arm as she says: 'Please let go of me.'

The woman filming the incident can be seen trying to free her friend and telling the driver: 'Let go of her you mad weirdo.'

The driver says: 'Are you going to pay?' The woman being held replies: 'Yes I'm going to pay, just please let go of me.'

The woman filming can then be heard saying: 'Am no going to be getting any money unless you take your hands off my pal.'

At this point, the driver then seems to realise that he is being filmed and attempts to grab the camera.

The camerawoman then shouts, 'You need to let go.'

Another person arrives on the scene saying: 'Has he got his hands on her?'

The woman then films from outside the cab and through the passenger window of the taxi, where the man can be seen holding a silver-coloured tool which strongly resembles a wrench used to change tyres.

The woman filming then yells: 'He's got a crowbar.'

He can be heard repeating: 'Are you going to pay?'

He eventually lets go of the woman in the back and someone can be heard saying: 'Nobody's paying.'

A still picture, published together with the video, claims to shows red marks across the arm of the woman who was being held.

The video alone condems this guys actions. He should not be holding her in that manner
and for holding the tyre wrench the way he did, he is f***ed. No matter what the back story
is he is in deep trouble.

Yes, but would still be interesting to know the full context and how the driver came to have grabbed the woman by the wrist.

At one extreme, couldn't really see any driver grabbing someone by the wrist while still in the car, just because they're arguing about the fare.

But you never know.

At the other extreme, the woman could have been attacking the driver, and he grabbed her wrist in self-defence.

You never know - stranger things have happened.

But on the evidence available, yes, the driver is bang to rights.

(Still haven't been able to view the whole video uninterrupted, but at least I heard the audio today.)

The only reasons the driver could justify holding the lady's wrist are that she was attacking him, or she was messing around with handbrake/gear stick.

The only reason the driver could justify holding and brandishing the wrench is if he was worried not about the ladies, but about others joining the fray.

However I'm not convinced he will be in this trade for much longer.

Don't know if the licensing aspect of this was reported at the time (as opposed to the tabloid splash above), but now we know.

Glasgow City Council suspend private hire driver for allegedly assaulting girl during row over fare

https://www.eveningtimes.co.uk/news/176 ... -over-far/

A private hire car driver who allegedly assaulted a girl during a row over a fare has lost his licence.

The man, who will go on trial in August, was suspended by Glasgow City Council licensing chiefs after a recommendation from Police Scotland’s Chief Constable Iain Livingstone.

He has been charged with assault to injury, carrying an offensive weapon and wasting police time.

A police officer told the licensing committee the force believes the man is “no longer a fit and proper person” to hold a licence as he would pose a “serious threat to public order or public safety”.

She said the incident allegedly happened in March when the driver picked up two young females, who he believed had no intention of paying for the journey.

It is claimed he grabbed one of the girl’s arms, repeatedly stating he wouldn’t let go until he was paid.

He is also accused of brandishing a metal tyre wrench at the girls, the officer said.

The man was suspended for six weeks immediately after the allegation was made.

Councillors have now agreed to increase the suspension for the unexpired portion of the duration of his licence.

The meeting was briefly adjourned while the licensing committee watched footage, filmed on one of the girl’s mobile phones, from the journey.

No councillors on the committee commented on the case as it is sub judice.

The driver is expected to appear in court in July, with his trial scheduled to begin in August.

A licensing authority can suspend a licence if the holder is “no longer a fit and proper person” or is “likely to cause undue public nuisance or a threat to public.
