Albatross Cars apologises after taxi customers wrongly charged on app

They are urging anyone who has had problems to get in touch

A popular Derby taxi company has apologised after customers were charged for journeys they never took.

Albatross Cars is urging anyone who thinks they may have been wrongly billed to get in touch with the firm immediately.

Customers claimed they had money taken out of their bank accounts via the Albatross Cars mobile app for taxi journeys they never made.

One user said three mysterious transactions for £4 each appeared on his bank statement.

He says he checked with his bank and it emerged the payments were made to the Midland Road-based taxi firm, on January 31.

However, he says he had not booked any journeys with the firm.

The customer, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "We checked online banking and there were three transactions with no names.

"Other people have had money taken too, they're getting the same thing.

"It happened to my sister-in-law, she is a single parent and has kids to feed. She needs the money.

"We've not even used them. We used the app before but that was at the start of the year.

"People are adamant they won't use them again. I know at least four other people that this has happened to.

"I've deleted the app. They were very apologetic, but it's had a knock-on effect. We won't be using them again."

A spokesman for Albatross Cars said the problem was due to issues with their former payment provider.

The firm said they will reimburse every customer affected as well as offer them a free taxi ride.

A spokesman for the company said: "Our payment providers are looking into the situation.

"A few customers had money taken out of their accounts.

"We have been telling every customer they will get their money back straight to their card.

"Instead of giving them a discount, we are going to give every customer a free taxi ride.

"We feel bad that our old payment provider let them down. We actually left them two months ago because we were having issues. We didn't feel the system was fast enough.

"We are going to reimburse their money to reinforce their faith in our brand. We appreciate their custom.

"If anyone else is having issues then let us know."

Taking money from people without authorisation is theft.

And allowing anyone to plunder your bank account by app is crazy.

And of course the firm will be covering that cost, not the drivers ? :doubt:
