London Heathrow caps the number of taxis accessing rank space due to “over supply” https://www.taxi-point.co.uk/single-pos ... ver-supply 6 Jun 2019 Perry Richardson London’s Heathrow airport has announced a ‘one in, one out’ policy for new taxi drivers wanting to obtain access tags to the airport’s ranks. In a letter circulated by the capital’s busiest airport, the Heathrow Taxi Management team said “Due to over supply of taxis compared to demand at Heathrow it has been necessary to implement a 1 in 1 out policy. “This policy means that new drivers are only able to join the Heathrow taxi feeder park system and receive a tag and booster when an existing driver closes their account at Heathrow.” The decision to cap the number of taxi drivers using the ranks at Heathrow has been met with varying levels of support. The GMB Pro Drivers union simply said “And about time too” whilst the United Cabbie’s Group (UCG) were less supportive. The UCG said via Twitter: “The UCG is totally against the Heathrow Feeder Park Tag waiting list system now in force. The licensed trade is, once again, suffering restriction of trade whilst PH can use the much larger car park without let or hindrance.” |

Quote: “This policy means that new drivers are only able to join the Heathrow taxi feeder park system and receive a tag and booster when an existing driver closes their account at Heathrow.” Wonder if this will be a proper first-come, first-served waiting list, or will drivers be buying and selling places?

I suspect the oversupply situation might have something to do with the zillions of PH that block up the drop off zones maybe Heathrow could do something about that !!!! |

Hackney ranks are nowhere near the drop off/pick up zones. but as long as London PH can conveniently sit right outside the terminal waiting for their fares people aren't going to see Hackneys as convenient and LHR tend to discriminate because if an out of town hackney was to stop to pick up in the drop off zone they would immediately get a £40 fine |

I have only ever done it once and got slapped with £40 fine the bye laws state that you cannot pick up outside the terminals but the London PH trade get away with it I was targetted because my vehicle has a rooflight |

Quote: The policy of allowing ph to pick up outside the terminal but if you want a Hackney you have to walk a distance from the terminal means people will book a PH instead of use a Hackney You seem to be saying that PH can wait outside with no time limit, but they only wait outside once they have been rung by the punter. Most PH pick up from the pick up point in the car parks, which if the punter is waiting cost nothing. Also waiting outside with the local PH in the drop off zone are hackneys and PH from elsewhere, often including me.
