Not much to see here, but second case maybe unusual because there seems to have been three people in the car when the alleged assault happened :?

Private hire driver is accused of sex assaults

A PRIVATE hire car driver has been accused of three counts of sexual assault.

The driver’s licence has been suspended by Glasgow City Council following a complaint from Police Scotland.

Chief Constable Iain Livingstone recommended the suspension and a police representative said the man is “no longer a fit and proper person to hold a licence”.

The driver, who we have not named for legal reasons, has also been accused of assault, Police Scotland told licensing chiefs.

The incidents allegedly happened in November 2017 and in May this year. However, they were not reported to officers until earlier this month.

The police representative told the licensing committee how the driver allegedly sexually assaulted a woman, who is aged over 16, assaulting her by pushing her to the ground.

She said he has also been accused of two further counts of sexual assault at a later date. The driver was likely to be a “serious threat to public safety” if he was allowed to continue driving, the officer added.

The accused intends to plead not guilty, his brother, who attended the meeting on his behalf, told the licensing committee.

Councillors ruled the driver’s licence, which was due to run until June 2021, should be suspended for the unexpired portion of its duration.

It had initially been suspended for six weeks following a complaint from Police Scotland Chief Constable Iain Livingstone on June 6.

Councillors on the committee made no comment on the case as it is sub judice.

A licensing authority can suspend a licence if the holder is “no longer a fit and proper person” or is “likely to cause undue public nuisance or a threat to public order or public safety”.

Suspension for driver

A PRIVATE hire car driver has been suspended after he allegedly touched the thigh of a female passenger.

The driver, who we have not named for legal reasons, has been charged under the Sexual Offences Act after an incident which was reported to police in April.

Glasgow City Council’s licensing chiefs suspended his licence for the unexpired portion of its duration at a meeting yesterday .

The move had been recommended by Police Scotland’s Chief Constable Iain Livingstone.

A police representative told the licensing committee that he was “no longer seen as a fit and proper person to hold a licence”.

She said, if he was to continue driving, he would be seen as a “threat to public safety”.

The driver came to the attention of the police on April 28 this year, the committee heard.

The police representative said three members of the public had got into a private hire car on a main Glasgow street and an alleged sexual assault took place.

He is accused of touching a female passenger’s “inner thigh without consent”, the officer said.

A trial date has yet to be set. The driver’s licence had been set to run until May 2021. He was not present at the licensing meeting.

Councillors on the committee made no comment on the case as it is sub judice.
