Some of the proposals associated with dezoning the Isle of Wight have caused concern amongst many of the Island taxi drivers. Both the council proposals/consultation and press comment are included below. If anyone has any thoughts or comments on the proposals that perhaps can be bought to the councils attention, please feel free to add comments below. Find them doing this at this time a tad daft.
The DfT are due to give us some guidance at any mo, yet the IoW (lovely place) are having a root and branch shake up now. What happens if they want to do something the DfT don't class as best practise?

I don't think dezoning for the sake of it is necessarily a good thing, since an LAs boundarys may be just as restrictive as zoning within an LA, whereas zoning within an LA might be a good thing. As regards the IoW knowledge test, for example, would drivers have to know all the zones in future, as opposed to one at the moment, or do they have to know them all at present? Or perhaps the knoweldge test is to be watered down in terms of detail but widened to cover the whole area so that it doesn't become too difficult to obtain a badge? In which case the customer might suffer because drivers don't know the area so well? |
