NTA/T&G (cab section) Press Announcement

The NTA www.national-taxi-association.co.uk and the T&G (cab section) www.tgwu.org.uk are delighted to announce that their elected leaders have agreed to merge into one. Both unions are presently forwarding proposals to members with a view to a postal vote taking place within weeks.

In the voting packs members will be receiving the full reasoning behind this merger, but the main reasons are:

i) A drastic fall in membership has necessitated this merger,

ii) As both unions have got most, if not all, policies wrong over the last few years, it is a must that we change the current leadership. We realise that we have failed, and so we must have a new fresh outlook with new fresh people at the helm.

iii) The present leadership have just received a confidential report giving conclusive evidence that not all taxi drivers are owners. To our surprise we have been informed that there are tens of thousands of drivers that we didn’t know about and have ignored for many years.

We are again delighted to inform you that following numerous meetings we have all agreed on a splendid new name for the merged union. The NTA and T&G (cab section) leadership are recommending to their members that the new name is the Combined Association Taxi Services, Proprietors, Operators and Owners or for short CATS POO.

1st April 2006

Some late news.

The T&G headlined 'OFT KOed' after the Government 'strongly encouraged' LAs to delimit as recommended by the OFT.

The NTA said that plate premiums were 'unproven and largely anecdotal'.

Problem is, they really did say that, and they weren't April fools either
