Police are investigating the alleged incident

Police are investigating an incident where a woman is alleged to have assaulted a taxi driver on the Barbican over the weekend.

The incident took place on Buckwell Street, just after 7pm on Saturday, July 20 and involved a Taxi First driver and a group of two men and two women.

It was reported to Devon and Cornwall Police that the group were obstructing the road and the taxi driver asked them to move out of the way.

One of the women from the group is then alleged to have thrown the contents of a bottle of wine over the driver, before punching him.

The driver was not injured in the incident, though his Bluetooth earpiece was broken, and there has been no arrests in the case at this stage.

A police spokesperson said: "Police are investigating an assault on a taxi driver in Buckwell Street, Plymouth.

"The incident happened just after 7pm on Saturday, July 20.

"A group of people, two men and two women, approached the taxi when he requested they move out of the road.

"One woman then threw the contents of a wine bottle over the driver before throwing a punch at him.

"The male driver was not injured but his Bluetooth earpiece was broken in the incident."

According to the comments there's dashcam evidence online, but it's certainly not on the newspaper's website:
