Not much of an article this, I suppose, but if it's kosher and it's a genuine return trip to 80+ miles away then it's quite a generous prize

Other interesting point is that it's the taxi association that's offering the prize, not a commercial firm, although of course they may have a despatch operation of some kind.

Another interesting feature is that the drivers are quite snazzy dressers for a change 8)

A gesture of goodwill to war veterans and elderly residents could see distant relatives and colleagues reunited.

Exmouth Taxi Association has launched a competition to give a resident an expenses-paid trip to reconnect with a fellow war survivor, family member or former work colleague.

The winning entry will be given a voucher which grants them a taxi ride up to the value of £240 which will take them as far away as Barnstaple, Plymouth, Bournemouth or Bristol Airport.

Leon Wilson, secretary of the association, said they are looking at ways to be more involved with the community and this is a 'gesture of good will' towards residents.

Anyone interested should email their name, phone number and the reason why they should win by Tuesday, September 3.

The voucher, which will have no monetary value, will be valid for a return trip until Christmas Eve this year.

Partially-sighted Exmouth woman's holiday in Torquay thanks to kind-hearted taxi drivers

A gesture of goodwill to vulnerable residents in Exmouth gave a partially-sighted Exmouth woman a three-day break in the English Riviera.

Tracy Murley, 37, benefitted from a scheme launched this summer by the Exmouth Taxi Association to give one vulnerable or elderly resident a chance for free travel.

She was picked up from an address in Budleigh Salterton by Galaxy Cars and stayed in a hotel.

Miss Murley enjoyed a stage show at the Princess Theatre, rode a land train and went swimming during her time in the city.

Her carer Amy Wardle, who put her forward for the competition, thanked the Exmouth Taxi Association for giving her return travel.

She said: "She was really excited when I told her.

"Tracy is an Exmouth girl and lived in the town all her life and she has progressed a lot this year.

"I thought it would be a nice little trip."
