Amber Cars launches investigation after 91 year old woman is 'taken advantage of' https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/news/leeds ... r-16753499 Chris Spencer claims his grandmother's taxi was paid for in advance but the driver asked her for cash, saying he was 'really hungry and had no food' A Leeds taxi firm has launched an investigation into claims that a 91-year-old grandmother was 'taken advantage of'. Chris Spencer says his grandmother's trip from Leeds General Infirmary to Guiseley on Tuesday, August 13 was paid for by the NHS. But he claims that when she arrived at her destination the Amber Cars Leeds driver asked her for cash, saying he was 'really hungry and had no food'. His grandmother then agreed to hand over around £20 in total, he says. Mr Spencer said: "The fact this man has taken advantage of an elderly women is extremely disconcerting, if he has done this to her I dread to think how many people he has spun the same sad tale to. "The fact she offered it I understand, due to my grandmothers nature, he fact he took it is morally wrong. "It is simply taking advantage of a very vulnerable woman." Mr Spencer also tweeted Amber Cars Leeds and received a response. The company wrote: "Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Please be assured that we are looking into this as a matter of priority and a full investigation will be launched." Plans to install CCTV in every taxi and private hire vehicle in Leeds are being explored by Leeds City Council. Under the current system, the council encourages drivers to install cameras in their vehicles and offers to subsidise the cost of installation (up to £250) but it cannot make them do it. Leeds City Council states that mandatory CCTV systems introduced by other councils have had 'positive' results for drivers and passengers. |

Be interested to see if the article is an accurate account of what happened, or not. Part of me thinks it's a crock of poo, but only time will tell. |

Don't know if it's relevant or not, but the complainant actually said that the driver asked for *additional* cash for food, as well as cash for the fare - the article above simply says that he asked for the cash fare because he needed food. Quote: My 91 year old elderly grand mother was taken home by an @leedsamber taxi - the driver charged her twice and took money for food (he said he couldn’t afford to eat). An utter disgrace - do not use Amber cars. https://twitter.com/cspencer1983/status ... 3830726657 But if the driver did ask for cash for food as well as cash for the fare then that perhaps indicates that he was trying it on and knew it was an account job in the first place. But would hardly be a surprise if there wasn't another peep heard about it

Maybe he was doing account job after account job lining the pockets of the owners all day when he picked the OAP up. We've all been there when it's account day. I remember days when I've had to dip into my own money to put fuel in because I've not took any money, it's all been account work. |
