Glasgow Taxis is on the hunt for cabbies to join their team as they launch a big recruitment drive.

From this week Glasgow Taxis Ltd, Scotland’s biggest licensed taxi firm, has wrapped ten of their black cabs in new recruitment messaging which will be visible on the city’s streets around the clock.

The company has said it has a “significant” number of openings for anyone interested in a new career, promising flexible hours, a chance to learn news skills, travelling opportunities and daily interaction with people.

Glasgow Taxis say they will offer a full package of support to help successful applicants through the training required to achieve their taxi badge.

Dougie McPherson, Glasgow Taxis Ltd chairman, said: "Working as a Glasgow Taxi driver is a brilliant opportunity to be your own boss, master your own hours and perhaps even one day acquire your own business – our doors are open to all.

"More than ever people are seeking flexibility to allow them to pursue their own interests and hobbies alongside their working life, and few careers are more conducive to this as that of a Glasgow Taxi driver.

"Many of our drivers thrive not only on that flexibility but also the daily engagement with customers, the chance to see more of Glasgow and, indeed, Scotland and to ultimately become an ambassador for their city. It can be a truly rewarding role. Some start as drivers then quickly begin to build their own business – there are many different routes to a successful career with Glasgow Taxis.

"What we can promise is full support throughout both the application process and the training required to become a Glasgow Taxi driver – we know that first step can be daunting, so people are welcome to pick up the phone and talk to us too. We look forward to welcoming the next generation of Glasgow Taxi drivers to the trade."

Anyone interested can make the first step of their application online HERE.

To replace the drivers jumping ship to Uber and mainstream PH because that's where the work is?

Does 'work-life balance' include the driver for that firm who bragged about working a 20-hour shift on Christmas Day?

Pity the 'balance' doesn't extend to the wheel trims in the photo, though

Interesting to read the FAQ on the firm's recruitment page, though - the sunlit uplands portrayed there doesn't really chime with the usual message.

Aimed at different audiences, I suspect.

Q – Is the taxi trade not fading away?

A – Seriously! Look at Glasgow’s skyline with new hotels springing up everywhere. Check out the playlist at the SSE Hydro! Glasgow has over 3.2 million domestic visitors and 1 million overseas visitors per year and counting! That’s a lot of people needing moved around. At Glasgow Taxis we also have many, long established, year round, account customers.

Quite.

They surely should have come up with a better slogan that the 'work life balance' one.

I'm struggling to think of a less 'work life balance' trade than ours, other than maybe the hotel or restaurant trade.
