Dunfermline taxi fare-dodger hit in the pocket

https://www.dunfermlinepress.com/news/1 ... it-pocket/

A TAXI passenger who twice refused to pay his fare found himself in court facing fines and compensation orders.

Mark McPhee, 27, of Ericht Drive, Dunfermline, appeared in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

McPhee ran up fares of more than £150 in two journeys but also planned to dodge paying.

He admitted that on March 24 last year, he obtained the hire of a taxi between Kinross and his home without paying nor intending to pay the fare of £70.

On October 19 last year, he obtained the hire of a taxi between Bowlplex, Fife Leisure Park; and Perth, without paying nor intending to pay the fare of £81.

Sheriff Craig McSherry fined McPhee £640 and ordered him to pay £151 compensation to the taxi firms.

Money up front on fares of that scale.

I am truly shocked a fare dodger actually getting prosecuted by the police

Certainly the odd case on here involving smaller amounts.

But he dodged *two* *big* fares, so that was probably why he was prosecuted.

Can't work out how a 13 mile trip (Kinross to Dunfermline) clocked up £70, though :-o

Unless he wasn't actually living in Dunfermline at the time :?

It's classed as fraud, and I expect they had him bang to rights.

Easier the case, more chance of the CPS agreeing a prosecution.

Possibly a bit of waiting time.
