Flintshire man who didn't have funds for taxi fare ends up with £423 bill

A TAXI ride home proved an expensive one for a Shotton man who was landed with a £423 court bill.

Glen Hart became embroiled in a dispute with a taxi driver who ferried him to Connah’s Quay police station as he feared he wasn’t going to pay his fare.

Hart claimed he had struck an agreement with the driver to take him home where he would pay the fare as he was not carrying enough cash.

But prosecutor Helen Tench said Hart became abusive and was arrested at the police station.

“He then urinated in the cell – he bent over and showed his testicles and anus,” said the prosecutor.

He said he’d caught a taxi in Chester so that he would not breach his curfew, but when the driver realised he had no money he feared he was being “kidnapped”.

The defendant claimed he asked to use the toilet in the station, but his request was refused.

Hart, 22, of Kent Avenue, Shotton admitted threatening behaviour and criminal damage on August 31 this year.

Nick Cross, defending, said Hart had an agreement with the taxi driver that he would give him his iPhone and pay him the fare when he got home.

“The driver took him to the police station and then refused to give him his phone back,” said the solicitor.

“He is ashamed of his behaviour in the police station.”

Hart was fined £200 and told to pay £106 compensation for the cell clean-up.

He was also billed costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £32.

For anyone confused by the geography, obviously Chester in England quite close to Welsh border.

So he took the cab from Chester to Shotton in Wales just over the border, about seven miles in total.

ermmm.........I'm a taxi driver I think I KNOW WHERE A LOT OF PLACES ARE !!

back to the topic if he couldn't afford the fare he probably won't pay the fine but the law has it's eye on him now

Unfortunately many in the trade aren't quite as knowledgeable as your good self :roll:

In fact don't know about the drivers in Chester, but suspect many new drivers here in North East Fife wouldn't know the local equivalent of that trip, never mind drivers in the rest of the UK :shock:

(Once 'did lunch' in Wales when I was staying in Chester for a few days, so was aware that Chester is quite close to the Welsh border, but if I hadn't been there I probably wouldn't have known offhand.)

I have breakfast in Wales, lunch in Chester and tea in Wales most days !
