Quote: Brighton taxi spotted in Northern Albania ![]() The cab's trademark colours were spotted by a traveller in Northern Albania this month. The man, who took the above picture, commented: "I'm sure there is a perfectly reasonable explanation but why is there a Brighton and Hove taxi being used in Northern Albania?" Streamline Taxis was contacted for comment. The distance between Brighton and Albania is about 1,700 miles and would take about 28 hours to drive. According to Better Taxi, a fare calculator website, a taxi fare is calculated by adding an initial £2.80 charge to the price per minute - estimated to be 33p. This would make the journey to Albania cost about £550 - although that excludes factors such ferries, overnight stops and, of course, the driver's ride home. |

Quote: The distance between Brighton and Albania is about 1,700 miles and would take about 28 hours to drive. So would you go on the hourly rate £560 (£20 an hour) or the mileage rate £4,080 (£2.40 a mile)? Or has the cab been nicked?

Load of nonsense - never heard of trips like this being quoted on a time basis, just mileage. Maybe tours and the like quoted by the hour, but nothing like this. I mean, what driver would go 1,700 miles for £550? To be fair, the article does say that that doesn't include the 'driver's ride home' and other charges, so the figure quoted in meaningless. But I see someone in the comments says there are a few Albanian/East European drivers in Brighton, so probably 'home' on holiday? Any 'mileage' in that? Millionmileman wrote: Not really a top story, lots of taxi drivers are from that region and take them and their families back for holidays probably cheaper than flights for 7 people, we were in Eastern Europe in summer and noticed lots of UK registered taxis on the roads

Without doubt one of the drivers going home for a holiday. Maybe he had booked a Thomas Cook flight?

Only flew with them once to Florida (and back), now I know what battery hens feel like!

I booked with them the Thursday before the went belly up on the Sunday / Monday morning. Luckily we're protected by ATOL but it's going to be an age to get our money back. I've booked another jolly for the same place in a weeks time, that was because I got up early on Monday morning when they pop overnight. |
