Don't know if this is worth reading, because the fact that he was a taxi driver isn't mentioned beyond the headline below and the sub-heading. In fact there are several other reports that don't even mention the fact that he was a taxi driver, including a press release on the Lancashire Constabulary website. But Haslingden is in Rossendale, which has obviously been in the news in recent years as the go-to place for HCD badges for drivers working cross-border doing pre-booked work, so don't know if their lax policies could have been any relevance here, but presumably the accused's addiction didn't come to light officially before he committed the murder. Or perhaps he'd lost his badge previously, and 'taxi driver' was simply his previous occupation, but there's no relevant information reported. (Of course, there's nothing to say that he was badged by Rossendale other than the fact that that's where he lived and where the murder took place.) The report also says that the accused lived in a room above a taxi office, which he'd been reduced to because of his cocaine habit, while a few months previously he'd been married and living in his own home in a 'good family'. So don't know if the taxi office angle is just a coincidence either. A couple of interesting comments on the website, though, although no doubt a tad exaggerated: the white witch wrote: He is not the only taxi driver that uses drugs or even deals in it. The police has been told time and time again but still they choose to ignore it and now look what has happened.
