Add Blackburn to the list Not sure why there seem to be so many similar reports at the moment - the darker nights, maybe? But can't really recall any such pattern to reports like this previously Taxi drivers block Blackburn roads in protest against vandals https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/n ... t-vandals/ ![]() Image: Lancashire Telegraph Taxi drivers blocked roads in Blackburn on Friday night in protest at youths who have been throwing stones at their vehicles. The protests began at around 7pm on Accrington Road, with drivers from various firms parking their cars along a long stretch of road and milling together in a crowd. Police attended the scene and were seen talking to the protestors. One protestor said that youths have been throwing stones and damaging taxis around the Intack, Mill Hill and Higher Croft areas. Another protestor said that he wants police "to do something about it" because it has "been going on for months." He added: "Give taxi drivers protection." The protestors moved their vehicles after discussions with police officers at the scene. It is understood the protest lasted around 15 minutes. A protestor said: "Police assured the drivers' security and protections. They agreed with the drivers on the issues and they will be deploying more patrols in the trouble areas." Ex councillor and taxi driver Muntazir Patel said: "Cabbies were being attacked and we called the police but they never responded. We waited an hour. "Then cabbies blocked the road. I tried to stop them but they were frustrated at the lack of action and their complaints not being taken seriously. "This has being going for a while. Cabbies' cars are being hit by stones and we just want our complaints taken more seriously." |

the country has an uncertain future many areas of the economy are in recession so usually this results in disaffected youths who are usually the most affected taking to the streets and taking their frustrations out on whoever they see as the main threat to their future |

Blackburn taxi stone attacks; cops outline action https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/n ... ne-action/ ![]() Image: Lancashire Telegraph POLICE are using CCTV-equipped decoy cars, undercover officers and extra patrols to tackle a spate of stone throwing at taxis. Earlier this month cab and private hire drivers blockaded Accrington Road in Blackburn in protest at the growing number of incidents of yobs chucking projectiles at their vehicles. One cabbie Altaf ‘Tiger’ Patel warned someone could be seriously injured or killed after his taxi was twice targeted. Another was left unable to work because his cab was so badly damaged by one of the attacks which are concentrated around Intack, Mill Hill and Highercroft, Blackburn. Last week the town’s police boss Inspector Martyn Holt outlined the action he was taking to combat the threat. at a summit with drivers, taxi firm bosses, and Blackburn with Darwen Council officials. He revealed a 14-year-old had been questioned about the incidents and further inquiries are ongoing. A special communication group is being set up between police and drivers to share information. Inspector Holt said police patrols have been stepped up, officers were carrying out undercover operations to identity perpetrators and visiting schools to warn pupils of the dangers and appeal for information. He said: “We believe it is young people causing mischief and needs to stop before somebody is seriously harmed. “This is a priority for us and we are doing everything we can to engage and educate young people. “We are deploying decoy cars with CCTV to act as a deterrent and help us identify the people responsible.” Saghier Hussain, from Blackburn’s Private Hire Association, said: “We are thankful this is being taken seriously because we don’t want somebody to be seriously injured, we have a duty to put the safety of our passengers first. Having a rock thrown through a window could kill someone.” A special communication group is being set up between the police and taxi driver to share information. Martin Eden, the council’s environment director, said: “What has been happening is quite frankly disgraceful. “Anyone going out to earn a living does not deserve to be attacked and withstand the financial burden of having to repair their vehicles. “The people carrying out these mindless acts need to think, what they are doing could seriously injure or kill someone.” Image: Lancashire Telegraph |
