There's a recording of this on the Echo's website, but it's all a bit confusing. Half heard it before reading the article, and didn't even realise the police were involved :-s

Also assumed from the word 'parents' in the headline that the runners were kids or teenagers, but it would seem not :-s

Story also makes it sound like the public are full of praise, but lots of comments on the Echo's website, and a quick look suggests the word 'grass' crops up a lot :-s

Taxi driver praised for 'doing the right thing' after taking £46 'fare dodgers' to parents' house

The 42-year-old said he "didn't want to be a grass" but he's "got a family to feed."

A Liverpool taxi driver was praised for "doing the right thing" after he took two fare dodgers to their parents' house when they refused to pay.

The popular Scouse cabbie, known to his fans as Kev's Cab, was fuming when two passengers - a man and woman, tried to make a run for it without paying for their £46 fare, after their friend left.

Video footage taken by Kev and shared on social media, shows the moment he flagged down a passing police van on Aigburth Road at around 7.15pm.

In the video, Kev can heard telling the officers: "£46 on the clock and they haven't paid me. They're going round the shop and god knows what, there was three of them but one's f***ed off - excuse the language.

"I didn't want to blow them up but I've got a family to feed, I don't want to be a grass but I want my money."

After telling the police what had happened, Kev and the officers took the passengers to their parents' house to get the fare he was owed.

Kev added: "The police were brilliant. They took them to their parents' houses and I followed behind in my cab.

"The parents were the ones that paid me in the end, I can't thank the police enough for their help."

And since sharing the story with the ECHO, over one hundred ECHO readers have praised Kev for his actions, describing him as an "honest man trying to earn an honest living."

Cathy Campbell said: "You did the right thing at the end of the day, they tried to steal from you by not paying.

"You're not a grass you are an honest man trying to earn an honest living, too many people these days expect things for free."

While Susan Anne Blanchard, said: "I don't blame him because at the end of the day that's his livelihood."

Margaret Emanuel [edited by admin], added: "Well done Kev you did what had to be done. xxx"

And ECHO reader Jean Williams Vickers, said: "You take what’s yours Kev. There's nothing wrong with getting the police involved, it’s your living."

Kev, 42, said he first picked up the passengers in Kensington and took them to Speke Retail Park, followed by a DIY shop, a pub on Park Road and finally to Windsor Street.

But Kev said one of the two men "went missing" on Windsor Street and the other two passengers tried to walk away from him.

Speaking to the ECHO about what happened today, Kev said: "I turned around and the woman was saying the man who had walked off had the money.

"I said to them 'at the end of the day I've got to get paid, I've got a family to feed'."

"I was fuming, I just want to make an honest living."

The 42-year-old added: "Sometimes if someone is a bit short of a pound or two I'll say It's okay but I would have had to stay out for three or four hours to make that back.

"People don't realise that you're on the front line as a black cab driver.

"I love this city and that's why I film what I do because I like to show what goes on everyday as a real life taxi driver."

That's presumably a previous promotional shot rather than Kev's reaction when the runners' parents coughed up :-o

Give em their due, the police are usually pretty helpful in these cases. I had a fare once that I picked up in town, took home and pulled the whole "I've got no money" crap. Took em right back to town and explained the situation to a copper, he gave them the choice of paying me or going in the back of the police van, suddenly they were able to get money out of a cash point after all...

Upshot was, I got paid for taking them home and bringing them back to town while they had to go find another taxi who would take them (good luck there).

Well done to the police for helping out.

As for the keyboard warriors going on about 'grass', f*** em.
