What is the law in the smoke regarding what taxi you take on the ranks, can you take anyone you want or do you have to go to the first???

the punter can take any one they want.

although most drivers (who are worth thier salt)will make up some excuse
for the punter to go to the front cab.

Depending on where the job is going the driver at the front should take it, but if it's a pony job, then the bloke near the back usually kops it. :roll:
