Lucky to get off with four week suspension in view of his, er, patchy history. Taxi driver slapped with suspension after foul-mouthed outburst at parking warden https://www.gazettelive.co.uk/news/tees ... r-17633716 The driver had previously been banned from the roads for speeding A taxi driver who was once banned from driving has now been suspended for a foul-mouthed outburst at a parking warden. Middlesbrough Council has taken action after a complaint from a Stockton Council parking patrol officer. Details of the suspension of the private hire driver’s licence have been set out in newly released council licensing committee documents. The driver has not been identified following the row, which took place on November 5. Councillors heard that the parking officer alleged the driver used “foul and abusive” language towards them in a public place. The driver was interviewed by a licensing enforcement officer on December 17. He claimed the parking warden mouthed the word “mother******” at him during the row, but the council said there was no evidence of this. The driver added he regretted the incident and was extremely remorseful. Bodycam video footage of the incident was also shown to councillors. The meeting heard how the driver had received a warning in 2001 after a row over allowing a guide dog in his vehicle. He was sent on a driver improvement scheme in 2011 after racking up three speeding offences and using a mobile phone. The driver surrendered his licence later that year after a further speeding offence led to a driving ban. He re-applied to get his licence back in 2013, which was refused, but was successful after a further application a year later. Middlesbrough Council suspended the driver’s private hire licence for four weeks after breaching its code of conduct. It said: “The committee considered it was wholly unacceptable for a licensed driver to insult and swear at an official carrying out their duties which was also a clear breach of the driver’s conditions and his code of conduct.” |

I can never understand why any driver, let alone a licensed driver, engages with traffic wardens. Just get in your car and drive off. Any complaints or appeals can be dealt with at a later date. Rucking with traffic wardens will get you nowhere, other than what this fella got, a four week unpaid holiday. |
