Twisted taxi driver jailed for sexual offences against girlshttps://www.theargus.co.uk/news/1827919 ... ces-girls/
Image: The ArgusA TWISTED taxi driver has been jailed over sexual offences against girls as young as seven. Neville Crouch took advantage of children in the Littlehampton and Goring areas during the 1980s and 90s.
The 63-year-old was jailed for a total of 26 years at Hove Crown Court yesterday.
Detective constable Andrew Roe said he had come to know his three victims through family and friend connections before he “ruthlessly took advantage of them for his own sexual gratification”.
Crouch was convicted of a string of assaults on a girl who was just seven when the abuse started in 1982, continuing for nine years in Littlehampton and later Hartlepool. The cabbie then carried out an assault on a 12-year-old girl in Goring in 1984.
He was also found guilty of four years of abuse against a girl in Hartlepool between 1993 and 1997.
She was 12 when he first assaulted her.
Crouch, who was living in Lancashire at the time of his sentencing, will serve 21 years in custody plus a further five years on extended prison licence. He will also be a registered sex offender for life.
The former cabbie was caught after an investigation by detectives from the West Sussex Safeguarding Team which began after officers received information relating to his crimes in 2017.
DC Roe praised the bravery of Crouch’s victims who came forward to help convict him.
He said: “Crouch, who lived and worked as a taxi driver in both Hartlepool and Littlehampton during the 1980s and 1990s, came to know his three young victims through family and friends, and ruthlessly took advantage of them for his own sexual gratification, against two of them over a period of years.
“The victim of the offences in both locations, having suffered in silence for many years afterwards, eventually and very bravely found the resolve to come to us in May 2017.
“We immediately began enquiries and traced the other two victims. We ensured that they had access to expert personal support and advice, and all three supported our investigation throughout and resolutely gave evidence at Crouch’s trial, for which they have our admiration.
“This is another example of the way in which, working with the Crown Prosecution Service, we will always follow up such reports no matter how long ago the events were, and seek justice wherever the evidence will enable us to.”
