https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51731757 A more eco-friendly petrol could be introduced to garages in the UK from next year. The government is consulting on making E10 - which contains less carbon and more ethanol than fuels currently on sale - the new standard petrol grade. The move could cut CO2 emissions from transport by 750,000 tonnes per year, the Department for Transport said. However, the lower carbon fuel would not be compatible with some older vehicles. Current petrol grades in the UK - known as E5 - contain up to 5% bioethanol. E10 would see this percentage increased up to 10% - a proportion that would bring the UK in line with countries such as Belgium, Finland, France and Germany. so lower miles per gallon and more imports of grain to refine into the ethanol or just buy in us corn ethanol at great cost this will add probably 2 to 3 pence per gallon to you fuel bill and although they say modern cars can cope with up to 15 percent ethanol it is not necessarily un-harmful to your fuel system and engineoh and just because it is sourced from crops the co2 is still being put back in the air so it isn't really cutting it

2-3 pence per gallon??? That is hardly going to change much. That is less than 1 pence per litre. |

Could see a big hike in fuel duty coming soon anyway, particularly with fuel prices so low - Shell diesel 119.9p in Dundee the other night

I can see it going down further as the world is coming to a halt for the next few months. |

More CO2 being pumped into the atmosphere what with this and the sale of electric cars being Lady of the Night like no one's business. It's all about the money. |
