Gedling woman fined over £350 for damaging taxi in fare dispute https://www.nottinghampost.com/news/not ... 50-3934854 'Her friends were left standing nearby and the driver drives off with her alone in the car' Kennedy Casterton, 20, only acted to halt the vehicle near the Forest Recreation Ground late at night, city magistrates heard. She had offered £5 to the cabbie who was annoyed because her two friends had no cash, said Neil O'Sullivan, mitigating. He told the court: "It was incredibly fraught and she was fearful. "This was a young lady left to her own devices in that particular area during the small hours of the morning. "Her friends were left standing nearby and the driver drives off with her alone in the car. "She kicks the windscreen simply in an effort to stop it and didn't know what was likely to happen. "That is a defence in law. However, what happens after that is a fit of pique. "She kicked the rest of the vehicle. She is not proud of what has happened and is plainly remorseful," said Mr O'Sullivan for Casterton of Perlethorpe Close, Gedling. She cares for the aged. Mr O'Sullivan said that Casterton had been out with friends when she hailed the taxi. He said there was "no signage on the vehicle" and the driver later began to mention an Uber booking which they had not made. The taxi only covered a short distance before the argument began and the other girls got out, added Mr O'Sullivan. Casterton, who had never been in trouble before, admitted damaging a vehicle at Sherwood on June 2 last year. She was ordered to pay £250 towards repairs and was fined £92 with government tax of £32. Daniel Pietryka, prosecuting, said that the taxi driver told police that he took a booking from some female passengers in Nottingham. "He mentioned that when he got to the Sherwood area, he had to re-book it via Uber. "He said that the passengers did not want to offer further payments. "Using the heel of her shoe, she (Casterton) kicked the windscreen, causing it to crack," added Mr Pietryka. |

Whole thing sounds more like a 'fit of pique', to be honest Quote: Mr O'Sullivan said that Casterton had been out with friends when she hailed the taxi. Not at all clear what happened here - first bit sounds a bit like it may have been a PHV plying for hire, or he picked up the wrong booking. But not at all clear
