Do they really need to do a survey if there are still plates available but nobody wants them? :-s

Town hall decision made on Bolton black cab numbers

LIMITS on the number of black cabs in Bolton have been reviewed.

There are 102 hackney carriage vehicle licences currently in use across the borough but the council still has six more available to issue.

Bolton Council last considered lifting restrictions on “ply for hire” taxis in 2016 but decided to maintain the current level of 108 licences as there was no unmet demand.

On Thursday, licensing and environmental regulation committee was asked to consider the matter again following a survey on unmet demand.

Principal licensing officer Elizabeth Pritchard revealed that there is no evidence of significant unmet demand but there was some concern over drivers moving towards a private hire style service rather waiting at taxi ranks during off peak times.

The licensing officer explained that the committee could keep the number of hackney carriage vehicle licences at the same level, or bring it down to 102. Cllr Cliff Morris proposed keeping the limits at the same level. Charles Oakes, chairman of the Hackney Drivers’ Assocation, who attended the meeting, said he was satisfied.

Of course they don't, but some councils just can't see the sense in not having one.
