'I’ll slice you' – Taxi driver threatened at knifepoint after picking up gang from Queen Elizabeth Hospital

https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/m ... i-17986343

The driver was forced to beg the robbery gang not to steal his phone

A brutal knife gang threatened to stab a terrified taxi driver unless he returned their £10 pre-payment.

The Elite Radio Cars driver took four young men from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital to Ley Hill Park at around 10pm on Wednesday, March 25.

They paid £10 upfront but. when they arrived, one of the gang pulled out a blade and demanded the cash or he would "slice him".

They grabbed the fare money and the taxi driver was forced to beg them not to take his mobile phone.

He was not hurt.

A company spokesman said: “Please be aware that, even in such hard times, there are still thugs out there carrying knives – they are clearly using this situation to their advantage

“When they booked I advised them it would be payment first. On arrival, they paid the £10 upfront but when they reached the destination they pulled a knife to the driver and said ‘give us the £10 back or we are going to slice you’.

“He gave it them back and begged them not to take his mobile phone and they left the vehicle.

“It’s just horrifying to know that this is still happening on Birmingham streets. Unfortunately, for them, we have their full booking history. Let’s hope we can catch them.

“We have reported the incident via 101 but are waiting on a log number.”

The company said a similar sinister attack also took place earlier this month and left a driver injured.

They added: “We had another incident last week. They robbed him at knifepoint, slashed his hand, and took his bank cards, his earnings for that shift.

Anyone with information on the first attack is urged to call police, quoting 1371 of March 12.

Don't know if it's because of coronavirus, or because of the wider expectation that police won't take these things too seriously these days, but sounds here like they're reporting a bit of vandalism rather than a knifepoint robbery.

And if the operator has their 'full booking history', then it won't require Inspector Morse to find and collar the perps :?

Not sure that the police are busy at the mo, if anything crime is incredible low at present.

So there is no excuse to take this robbery with a knife lightly. TBH this crime, particularly the knife aspect, is at the top of the police naughty list.

Personally I would be very surprised if they get away with it.
