Short but to the point.

50% a bit more generous than the Falkirk firm's 20%, but clearly not as good as some.

But this article was posted on 31 March, so the rates quoted could be those applying a few days before that, so could well be different now.

Of course, the higher the fees are maintained the more likely that more drivers simply won't bother, so to a degree at least it would just leave a bigger share of the cake for those toughing it out.

Not sure what the HC rank photo is all about, though, but same old, same old.

But nice motor sitting in second place there :-o

Private hire drivers in Eastbourne have seen a drop in regular work due to the coronavirus pandemic and some firms have adjusted rates to keep workers on the road.

Three companies in Eastbourne were contacted by the Herald yesterday (Monday) which include Sussex Cars, Call-A-Cab and 720 Taxis.

A Sussex Cars spokesperson said, “Sussex Cars is a non-profit making association with about 165 self employed drivers.

“We have reduced driver subscriptions by 50 per cent to help drivers through this difficult time coping with the coronavirus, which has caused a dramatic loss of earnings. Drivers are still providing a business as usual service.”

A Call-a-Cab spokesperson said, “We are charging half subs. If drivers want to work it is up to them. We are doing everything we can here to ensure drivers are protected. If they want to self-isolate they can. There is no pressure here.

“We have a total of 92 drivers, with 12 who want to work at the moment. Business is slightly ticking on. We are still taking key workers to work, and unless it is essential travel we are not taking anyone.”

720 Taxis declined to make a comment.

Anyway, I'm trying to keep my laptop lid closed as much as possible for a wee while, so someone else will have to post the news. Not that there's much around at the moment, apart from the stuff about free/discounted cars for NHS staff/vulnerable people etc, or offers to deliver food and medicines.

Thought all this would give me lots of free time to do lots of other stuff that needs doing, some of which I've been meaning to do for years.

But just been spending more time gawping at my laptop and eating too much food, so it's now or never, or I'll just waste two or three months doing nothing other than putting on weight. (Not that I'm spending limited cash on food - it's all these tins I've been hoarding :? )

Down here the (non Uber) largest firm is giving a f*** all discount, the second largest giving a third off, and the third largest is giving 50% off.

Maybe the firm giving nothing off will reap the rewards for that when the bank takes back their office and call center.
