Captain Tom,man of great faith in himself to fulfil a quest to help those heroes(N.H.S. staff) at a time of need.

Congratulations Tom you deserve a knighthood.

The feeling on the ground is that he deserves more than just a Knighthood.

If this is a battle, and it is, he should get a Battlefield Commission - I would suggest a Field Marshals baton might be about right.

He may well deserve a Knighthood in the eyes of the public but in reality that is not how the awards system works. I know a few people who have done charitable work for years and years, dedicated most of their lives for good causes and they get an MBE. Another chap who recently made the news for the service he did in looking after the memorial to the crew of an American plane that crashed, he looked after that memorial every day since it was put up and he got an MBE. based on this I would think that there will be no doubt that he will get an MBE but I would be very surprised if he was awarded anything higher. Of course, members of the public can nominate him for any award they like and I am certain that there will be a huge number of nominations going in for him to receive a Knighthood and I hope they wont be to disappointed if he does not get one.
I think next years new years honours and the queens birthday honours for next year will include an awful lot of doctors and nurses and some of them may get higher awards than an MBE and they will all deserve them.
Next month I will be taking over as the Mayor of our town and one the things that I will hopefully be able to do is arrange a parade through the town for ALL the people who have gone above and beyond during this torrid time, so not just the NHS and other emergency workers but the shop workers who have kept us all going, the volunteers who have been delivering everything etc. I hope to end the parade with a thanksgiving service to be held in our town park.

My suggestion of Field Marshal was tongue in cheek.

Generally you are right on the Honours System Grandad. The Monarch however has a personal power to grant honours above and beyond those granted on Ministerial advice.

QEII could score some points by exercising her power on this one.

there is a change . org petition calling for it now

All credit to him for what he's done but at the moment the NHS is at the forefront so it would be very easy to raise that sort of money

lets hope it gets spent wisely and doesn't fall into the hands of the administrators who will squirrel it away

The way this money is spent will be scrutinised by all the press, so I doubt any of it will be pi**ed up the wall.

The money does not go to the NHS. it is the NHS charities trust and is not used for medical purposes but for other stuff such as helping with relatives rooms for the families of cancer patients and stuff to improve the wellbeing of doctors and nurses.

I think serving in the war and raising £25 million is enough to get anyone a knighthood IMO.
