ELECTRIC TAXIS FOR THE WHARF

A DOCKS-based firm is aiming to revolutionise the taxi industry by introducing a fleet of electric vehicles to serve Canary Wharf, Docklands and the City. The Orbital Group, based in Waterfront Studios, Royal Docks, has launched Europe's first electric powered taxi service complete with on-board entertainment and zero emission.

The cars even carry iPods and daily newspapers, offering a service that is not only greener than conventional petrol or diesel cabs, but more comfortable and enjoyable. Rod Hutton, CEO of Orbital, said: "We want to force something of a quiet revolution upon the taxi industry and lead the way in promoting environmentally-friendly travel. "As a bonus for customers, due to the fact we don't use petrol in our cars the journeys are inevitably cheaper, regardless of the destination".

"The cars embrace everything that the 21st century traveller wants as they are cheaper, greener and safer, as well as providing a better all-round experience thanks to the in-car entertainment. The newspapers are also a great touch that people have really responded to, and we are pleased to see that our initial ideas about how we could improve the taxi experience for customers proved to be spot-on."

The move has delighted green campaigners, who hope Docklands can now lead the way in green-friendly travel. A spokesperson for the area's Green Party said: "It's fantastic to see that someone has been able to see this project through to fruition, as so often they get talked about then fall by the wayside.

"Zero-emission cars have the potential to become just as popular as conventional vehicles and this is hopefully just the beginning. "It's particularly pleasing to see a firm located in an area associated with big business and industry doing their bit for the environment."

For more information on the private hire and taxi services offered by Orbital, call 020 7474 9567 or visit www.theorbitalgroup.co.uk .

So if it's that green, I wonder how many rainforests have been chopped down to provide these newspapers. [-X

I wonder what kind of cars they're using - I had a look on the website, but it obviously isn't complete yet.

Lets replace the above with 'Tuk Tuks set to revolutionise the taxi industry in London, blah blah etc . . . ' Remember that one?

Another dreamer with big hopes, but with zero common sense.
Still he can tell the bailifs that when they come knocking. :?

Seems to be plenty of tuks tuks when I'm ever in the smoke, and I'm pretty sure the owners don't have to worry about the bailiffs. 8-[
