Spalding area's Royal Taxis see a 50% increase in bookings as lockdown measures begin to ease

Royal Taxis, which covers Spalding and the surrounding areas, has seen bookings rise by 50%, compared to last week.

This follows Prime Minister Boris Johnson's speech on Sunday, in which he stated that those who could not work from home, should now begin to return - for instance, those in construction or manufacturing.

And Royal Taxis' boss Mroof Choudry said that his staff have seen 'quite a big increase in business, compared to last week.'

He said: "It's been quite busy. It's been up by 50%."

The business has strict measures in place to protect both staff and passengers from the risks of COVID-19.

"We took all of the cars off the road and put in e7 cabs, like the London cabs which have a shield," Mr Choudry explained.

"We have gloves, masks and sanitisers being used."

The fleet has also been a vital service throughout the crisis, transporting the children of key workers to schools in the area, whilst keeping health and safety measures tight.

"We have not stopped taking the children to schools," he said.

Royal Taxis has also been helping to collect and deliver prescriptions to residents in the area during the lockdown, offering the service for free to those aged 70 and above.

A 50% increase could be from 2 jobs to 3 jobs.

I doubt it very much yes there has been a slight increase in work this week locally but only slightly up certainly no more than 10 percent and the nature of the area is that tulipville has a very similar pattern of trade to most other towns in the area with the exception that they have more factories and lorry depots mostly involved in food processing and distribution.

I would think either he has had a bit of a freak week with a few descent jobs coming in as I did 2 weeks ago or this is an attempt to drum up trade or more likely to entice his drivers back to work

well had a phone call from Mr "whats the gossip" this morning and apparently he sat in their office for 3 hours talking to owner and there were 60 jobs on the screen for that 3 hour period with 15 cars working

Acorn in Boston are getting plenty of work as well so obviously some parts of Lincolnshire are doing OK

The only reason I can think of is that both Spalding and Boston have very large Eastern European communities so perhaps they are busy working and using taxis/PH

I was thinking that, actually, when Sussex posted this last week. Even around here there are gangs of labourers working in the fields planting crops and the like at the moment (although I think bulk of that is finished now), and of course, they'll soon be harvesting the earlier crops.

So possibly more people moving around in likes of Boston and Spalding than more typical areas, even if they're not East Europeans.

And mostly young and fit people as well, so proably not particularly worried about Covid-19, or at least not so much as us oldie diabetics etc :-o
