Trial for Barrow man who denies assault and failing to pay taxi fare

A MAN facing charges of assaulting a woman and making off without paying £12 for a taxi will go on trial in September.

Andrew Stuart Nelson, 38, of Parker Street, Barrow, appeared before South Cumbria Magistrates Court on Thursday where he faced a total of three charges.

Mr Nelson is alleged to have assaulted a woman in Barrow on August 22.

On the same date, he is alleged to have taken a taxi journey in Barrow before getting out of the vehicle and making off without paying the £12 fare.

And also on the same date, he is alleged to have approached the home address of a victim and made contact with a victim, when he was prohibited to do so by a restraining order imposed by the court in 2019.

The offence was under the Harassment Act 1997.

He entered not guilty pleas to all charges and was remanded in custody with a trial date set for September 24

That's the matter which has led him to be remanded in custody.
