I used to be quite interested in these appointments, but her interest in the trade is likely to go no further than a couple of speeches and press releases drafted by civil servants, and within a year or two (at most) she'll either be promoted, demoted or shunted sideways, more than likely to another department.

But I see that one of the main responsibilities of the new Secretary of State for Transport (Douglas Alexander) is 'deregulation' and that one of his past briefs was 'better regulation'.

Yes, Ms. Merron often seeks my advice on taxi matters.

Also Margeret Beckett, the new Foreign Secretary, is an ex-MP for Lincoln, when she was Margeret Jackson. Her husband, the caravan loving Leo Beckett, was her agent. Bit of a hint of the "Prescotts" when he divorced his wife and married the Princess Anne lookalike Margeret.

And It's a pity you've misspelt her name. You know how touchy people are about that sort of thing.

One would think so?

How do you spell her name, or is that a secret?
