Taxi driver tries to lure schoolgirl, 11, into cab in terrifying 'attempted abduction' in North Staffordshire

A terrified 11-year-old girl ran for her life after a taxi driver tried to lure her into his cab as she walked home in North Staffordshire.

The youngster was heading past Blythe Bridge train station, in Uttoxeter Road, when a car pulled up alongside her.

The cabbie - described as Asian with stubble and spiky black hair - then tried to persuade her to get in at around 5.30pm on Tuesday (September 15).

It is believed the same driver had approached the victim around an hour and 20 minutes earlier.

Sharing details of the incident on Facebook to warn other parents, her mum said: "My daughter came in and said that a taxi asked her to get in his car.

"He slowly drove up to her and she knew something was wrong. He also approached her a bit lower down the road too some time earlier.

"Please spread the word as I want to make other children aware.

"My daughter's fine and did the right thing by running straight home."

Other parents are urging their children to be cautious in the village.

One mum said: "My friend has recently moved to the area and her daughter who has only just started high school was stopped during her short walk home and tried to talk her in to getting in to his car.

"This happened just up the road from the little Tesco. He was seen on a few occasions before he approached her. If anyone has CCTV it would be greatly appreciated.

"It's so scary. Everyone with young children should be extra vigilant."

Officers have now launched an appeal for witnesses.

The suspect is thought to be aged in his late 30s and his taxi was black with a yellow stripe.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "We were called at 8pm on Tuesday evening to reports of a suspicious incident in Blythe Bridge.

"At 5.30pm an 11-year-old girl had been approached by a taxi driver while she was walking by Blythe Bridge train station and encouraged to get into the vehicle. The girl ran off.

"The taxi is described as black with a yellow sticker and the driver is described as an Asian man, aged in his late 30s with short, spiky black hair with stubble."

Anyone with information should message Staffordshire Police on Facebook or Twitter quoting incident number 753 of September 15. Alternatively, call 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

Lets hope this pervert is caught quickly. I know this area a little and there would have been plenty of cars about but very few pedestrians.
