Taxi driver punched and put in headlock after picking men up from Stapleford
Police say a taxi driver was punched and put in a headlock after picking up two passengers in Stapleford.
The incident occurred between 7.30pm and 7.45pm yesterday, Saturday, September 26.
The driver was asked to take them into the city centre but, as he was driving, the pair asked him to take them to Ilkeston instead.
When he refused, he was assaulted, punched in the shoulder and put into a headlock by the men.
After pulling into New Eaton Road in Stapleford, the men then took his phone and threw it over a nearby hedge and snapped his car keys before running off on foot towards Darkey Lane.
A man matching a description given to police was arrested nearby a short time after on suspicion of robbery. He remains in custody.
Detective Sergeant Luke Todd, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Thankfully the taxi driver wasn't seriously injured during this frightening incident which began while he was driving.
"We are working hard to trace the second suspect and we are appealing for anyone who was in the New Eaton Road area around the time of the incident and who may have information which could help us with our enquiries to please get in touch with us.
