East Leeds Neighbourhood Policing Team have issued a warning to children after criminal and anti-social behaviour left a taxi driver needing urgent medical help.

The driver was injured in a stone throwing incident that took place on York Road on November 5.

Now the policing team are requesting that parents and carers speak to their children or young people in their care regarding the dangers and consequences of stone throwing at vehicles.

A number of reported occurrences of damages to public and private hire vehicles were made during the York Road incidents.

East Leeds Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “East Leeds Neighbourhood Policing Team would like to kindly request parents and carers to speak to their children or young people in their care, regarding the dangers and consequences of stone throwing at vehicles.

"This request is being made following a number of reported occurrences of damages to Public and Private Hire vehicles and follows on from the incidents that took place on York Road, Leeds on the 5th November 2020, which resulted in a taxi driver requiring urgent medical help.

"Educating young children regarding their behaviour, the consequences of their actions and the impact their behaviour is causing on the local communities, is a key element in addressing this matter.

"This type of criminal and anti-social behaviour is completely unacceptable and presents obvious dangers to drivers, passengers and other road users.

"We remain committed to working with Public Transport Services and Private Hire companies who provide an invaluable service to our local communities.

"The removal of such services from the area would have a detrimental impact on the local communities of East Leeds.

The police are asking for those who know anyone involved in such criminal and anti-social behaviour to report this by calling 101 or reporting online via http://www.westyorkshire.police.uk/101livechat.

Alternatively information can also be given anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

I was told many years ago by a person in the judiciary that if someone (child or adult) causes damage to our vehicles other than a motor accident we can claim off their household insurance.
