Following investigations at the scene it was concluded no crimes had been committed police say

There was a big emergency response in north Manchester tonight after a taxi driver was sprayed with a substance which was eventually found to be harmless.

The drama unfolded on Crumpsall Lane in Crumpsall just after 6pm.

A Greater Manchester Police (GMP) spokesman said they were called at around 6:10pm to reports a taxi driver had become involved in a dispute with a passenger.

During this an aerosol was sprayed into the cab, the spokesman said and the driver feared it "may be something sinister."

As a result, police officers along with paramedics and firefighters were dispatched to the scene in the event that it was a dangerous or corrosive substance.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a large number of emergency service vehicles near the junction with Delaunays Road.

However the police spokesman said that it transpired that the substance was in fact body spray and following investigations at the scene it was concluded no crimes had been committed.

No one was injured and no arrests were made he added.

Not surprised by police response to this, but on the other hand not impressed :?

So there's a dispute, and the passenger sprays something from an aerosol into the cab?

Even if it's harmless, presumably the intention was to at least intimidate the driver, who wouldn't have known the nature of the substance, as the emergency response seems to indicate.

I mean, I'm sure the punter didn't say: "Apologies for leaving the smell of my pizza in your car. Here, I'll just spray this body spray into your cab to get rid of the smell, and give it a nice aroma." :-s

So I'm sure police could have found some crime if they'd wanted to :roll:

Clearly the police are unanware of the law of the land.

You don't have to hit someone for an offence of common assault to be charged. The fear of an assault is enough, and that driver was put in fear by the actions of the idiots who aimed the spray at him.

Maybe the police didn't fancy all that paperwork. [-X
