A London security guard was jailed for seven years for raping a woman who entered his car after a night out thinking it was a taxi.

Sola Warikwah, 39, saw the woman sitting on the pavement in Central London and drove her to an empty car park he covered during his shift.

The night patrol manager told jurors they had consensual sex, but the victim said she was a lesbian and woke up to find him raping her

Southwark Crown Court heard the victim, who is in her 20s, texted a friend saying: “I’ve been raped. I feel sick. This taxi won’t take me home.

The brave victim took photographs of Warikwah as he left the scene which helped lead to his conviction.

His work vehicle was also caught on the car park CCTV.

Warikwah denied one count of rape but was convicted by the jury after a week-long trial on September 18.

A judge described "dangerous" Warikwah as a "Jekyll and Hyde" character after two women supplied character references for him in court.

The court heard Warikwah previously helped police apprehend a robbery suspect and once retrieved a stolen handbag from a thief.

Warikwah approached the woman on London’s Embankment near Temple Tube station at around 2.30am on Easter Monday, April 22, last year

The court heard the victim entered a taxi from a nightclub in Bethnal Green but was thrown out after being sick.

She then got into the car with Warikwah, thinking he was a driver.

He then entered a quiet car park in Belgravia at around 3.20am and raped her, before leaving by manually pulling up the barrier.

Prosecutor Paul Casey said: “It’s an abuse of trust. He must have, if not impersonated, then allowed her to sustain the impression he was a taxi driver.

“She was locked in at least for those minutes. It does amount to not quite abduction, but to prolonged detention and sustained over the period of time the rape took place whilst stationary in the NCP car park.”

Warikwah, from Deptford, in South East London, was arrested two days later.

'My life has been turned upside down'

In a victim impact statement, the woman said: “Since the attack my life has been turned upside down. I still don’t know how I will overcome it and be 100 per cent the person I was before.

“Initially I did not want to be in my body and on bad days I still don’t.”

The court heard she suffers from anxiety and paranoia and has been receiving therapy since the attack.

She said: “The assault made it difficult to keep my mind strong and my thoughts healthy. I have a lot of positive people in my life but it will take me an extremely long time to feel close to the person I was before this assault.”

Jailing him, Judge Martin Griffith said: “It’s clearly had a great traumatic effect on her. It seems to be almost a Jekyll and Hyde part of you.

"The man who did that to that woman does not feature in the man your friends and colleagues know.

“I find it very hard to fit the two together.”

Warikwah will be subject to an extended licence period of three years after his release.

He was on the lookout, it wasn't a chance meeting IMO. [-(
