West Yorkshire taxi company Cas Cars threatens to boycott areas after cars smashed with bricks

A taxi company based in West Yorkshire may have to "cut off" some areas - after increased vandalism including bricks being thrown at cars caused huge damage to their vehicles.

Cas Cars - which operates from Castleford - said more than 60 taxis had been damaged throughout 2020, primarily from "youths throwing objects at them".

The company said their trade had been severely impacted due to Covid and drivers can't afford to keep repairing the vehicles.

Cas Cars now said they may be forced to not operate in certain areas due to vandalism and can't "risk driver and passenger safety".

In a post on social media, Cas Cars said: "Last night serveral of our vehicles and other private vehicles were damaged by youths throwing bricks & snowballs in Airedale & Ferry Fryston.

"Because of this we are considering restricting services to certain areas of Airedale & Ferry Fryston at certain times.

"If you know who these kids are or if they are members of your family we implore you to make them stop before someone gets seriously injured or worse.

"We regret to say if this sort of behaviour happens again we will be left with no option but to cut off service to certain areas of Airedale & Ferry Fryston."

Cas Cars told the Yorkshire Evening Post that authorities don't take action "until someone is seriously injured".

They added: "Two months ago we had a couple of our buses windows smashed in the same area and we was promised by authorities it will take action but nothing has been done.

"In 2020 over 60 times taxis belonging to our company alone had been seriously damaged resulting in being taken off the road due to kids throwing objects at them.

"We can not risk our driver and passenger safety so we will have to consider reducing service."

I think this is an ongoing problem and will continue to be so until the local trade take out a class action against Yorkshire police
