I used to be quite interested in these appointments, but her interest in the trade is likely to go no further than a couple of speeches and press releases drafted by civil servants, and within a year or two (at most) she'll either be promoted, demoted or shunted sideways, more than likely to another department.

But I see that one of the main responsibilities of the new Secretary of State for Transport (Douglas Alexander) is 'deregulation' and that one of his past briefs was 'better regulation'. :shock:
