Dishonest taxi driver is banned TAXI drivers have welcomed a judge's decision to uphold a ban on a private hire driver who stole from his employer. Mohammed Nasir lost his licence to drive a private hire car in the city when Peterborough City Council discovered he had received a caution for dishonesty. The charge related to a police caution for false accounting after he admitted wrongfully printing two gift vouchers while working at his previous employer, Dixons in Queensgate, and using them to purchase articles from sister company, PC World at the Boulevard Retail Park. But the blemish on his record breached the council's tough rules on who can drive taxis or private hire cars in the city. An appeal against the decision was dismissed at Peterborough Magistrates' Court in January and Judge Neil McKittrick upheld the magistrate's decision at Peterborough Crown Court yesterday – ordering Nasir to pay the council's costs of £1,700. Today, Mahmood Khan, chairman of Peterborough Taxi Forum, backed the judge's decision and also the council's hard-line stance on weeding out dishonest taxi drivers. He said: "Passengers must have complete confidence in taxi drivers. "People think it is easy to get a taxi driver's badge, but it's actually very difficult. There are checks done by police and the DVLA and if anything shows up then you will not get a licence. Even a single speeding offence can put it at risk. "It is harsh, but this is people's livelihoods. We don't want a small number of people giving the rest of us a bad name. "Peterborough is much harsher than other councils about who can drive taxi and this decision shows that." Checks have become increasingly rigorous since January. Foreign nationals seeking a taxi licence must now have a letter from their home country's embassy, stating they have a clean driving licence and no criminal record. Ken Gray, the council's principal taxi enforcement officer, said: "As the authority responsible for licensing Hackney carriages, private hire cars, drivers and operators, the city council must give priority to the protection of the public. "Vehicles must be roadworthy and drivers must be trustworthy." |

Okay the headlines wrong, he was a dishonest PH driver Secondly, why the headline? he was a shop worker when he was doing the dodgy dealings. Thirdly, I wonder if he declared the offence? Forthly, theres enough people already in this industry wanting something for nothing (skull is an ideal example). Captain Cab |

I think its harsh, especially as we sometimes get jacked on fares, thats dishonesty and thiers chit all we can do sometimes! as for Skull, he needs to save up for his pension |

I think the point is beat one beat all. I know all of you on here are whiter than white that goes without saying. (Including Captain Cab and 187ums for that matter) but you see this is the great illusion. All are racing for the moral high ground. Well tell me, does it feel good looking down on the weak knowing you have never given in to an impulse to do wrong? Or is it only wrong if you get caught? You see that’s the difference. Doing the dirty deed and getting caught. What comes first the chicken or the egg? My hero's

by the looks of some of the drivers joining the fold down here. that bloke is well qualified. might even be made chairman of scanners firm.
