Obviously quite rare for these things to end up in court, and unusual circumstances too. Herefordshire cleaner in court after dodging taxi fare https://www.herefordtimes.com/news/1919 ... taxi-fare/ A CLEANER has been ordered to pay compensation after failing to pay his taxi fare. Jesse Frayling entered a guilty plea when he appeared before magistrates in Hereford. The night-shift cleaner had ordered a taxi to take him from Hereford to his Bishops Frome home just after 5am on January 1, prosecutor Mark Hambling said. Frayling, who had not had any means of paying the taxi fare on him, was dropped off outside his home to retrieve payment, but did not reappear. Police were called and, in interview, Frayling said he had thought he would have been paid that day, but when he got home he found his wages had not arrived, and he was not able to pay the £40 bill. Chris Read, for Frayling, said the 51-year-old would normally have got a lift or walked home, but had decided to get a taxi as it was snowing that morning. "He had no money on him, but thought he could pay with his card when he got home," Mr Read said. "But he had not been paid. The easy option would have been to go out and arrange to pay the next day, but he did not. He planned to get in touch with Blue Line and pay, but one day turned into two days and so on until police were called." Frayling, who is now of no fixed address, was ordered to pay compensation of £40. He must also pay costs of £60. |

Quote: Chris Read, for Frayling, said the 51-year-old would normally have got a lift or walked home, but had decided to get a taxi as it was snowing that morning. According to Google it's about 15 miles - a reasonable hike at that age after finishing a shift But if he just has to pay the fare and £60 costs then he's gotten off pretty lightly, I'm guessing

Quote: Obviously quite rare for these things to end up in court, and unusual circumstances too. I suspect he was given a conditional caution, with the condition being paying the fare. But I suspect he didn't, hence the summons. |
