Post subject:  Anger at chipping damage

https://www.gazetteherald.co.uk/news/19315115.anger-chipping-damage/

this is mostly a general article about motorists but some of it about taxis as per this extract

“his way of patching roads is not fit for purpose, and causing hundreds if not thousands of pounds worth of damage to cars.
“One car is bad enough and too many, but by the sounds of it, it could be hundreds of cars damaged on these roads.
“The state of the roads is disgusting, the gravel has not stuck and is causing damage, it must be stopped and drivers should be compensated for the damage.”

Other motorists have reported damage to their vehicles in Welham Road in Norton, Kirby Misperton, Swinton, Hovingham and Leavening.

Lisa Ridsdale from Station Taxis said it was heartbreaking. “We’ve got six screens damaged - five needing a chip repair at £50 a go and one which needs a new screen at just short of £550 and all in five days. It’s too expensive to claim on taxi insurance so we are already £740 down.

“It’s heartbreaking in the current climate and not something we can afford. I could have cried when one of the drivers messaged with another stone thrown off a passing car.”

Richard Marr , Highway Area Manager for NYCC, said: “The presence of 20mph signs are there to tell motorists to drive slowly. If they choose to ignore these signs then there is little more my contractor can do.

“As for claims, anyone can claim for costs they have incurred if they feel the council or its contractors have been negligent. However, the council, and I assume my contractor, will defend any claims where we believe we have not been negligent.”
