The boss of an Inverness taxi firm has said business is booming.

Gavin Johnston, the owner of Inverness Taxis, said the last weekend was 'as busy as 2018 and 2019' and he expects the trade to continue for a staycation market.
In fact, business is so good that Mr Johnston now plans to employ a number of new taxi drivers to meet the needs of customers, both local and visitors, as well as for the firm's busy food delivery service.

Mr Johnston said: "This is good news. Last weekend was the busiest weekend that we have had in a year. We had bookings from everywhere from the airport, the train station, from hotels, campsites and all over. We were also delivering through the app for takeaway food.

"Over the weekend we had 80 cars working. It really felt like the old days of 2019 and 2018 and it was great to see it.
He continued: "We had lots of new customers in the city for the weekend. Our phones were literally ringing off the hook."

But smells of advertorial rather than news, and indeed the rest of the article confirms that - looks like a slightly more sophisticated version of the Echo's recruitment advert.

Bound to be a lot of this in the coming months - not because the job is any more attractive or that things are necessarily really booming as portrayed in Inverness, but simply because many offices will be looking to replace the drivers who left because of the pandemic. Anyway:

Couldn't be bothered clicking on the linked article at the bottom there (which we normally wouldn't include on here, obviously), but maybe that would confirm that the taxi firm boss is being a bit, er, optimisitic :roll:

Pop over here and have a look at our records. This week we took nearly 20%more than before the lockdown in March 2020. We didn't work at all on bank holiday Monday and we don't work today. We did have another driver start last night but at the moment he can only do weekends whilst he works out his months notice with the company he is with now (not taxis).
We were still turning jobs away left right and centre.
The average take per hour over all the drivers and all the shifts was a bit over £20.00 per hour.
The new driver seemed pleased that including tips he earned over £12.00 per hour with no expenses.
