Is England's biggest fan a Bracknell taxi driver?

A FOOTBALL mad driver from Bracknell has converted his taxi to support England in the Euros 2020.

The resident has turned his old London cab into a patriotic display ahead of England's clash with Germany tonight.

Allan Fazey sent in pictures of his bright red taxi which he hopes will bring "luck" in tonight's game.

The old cab has been painted in red with union jacks displayed on the bonnet and mirrors.

Mr Fazey said: "I have been doing this to put a smile on people's faces. The comments have been really positive with people beeping as they drive past shouting 'it's coming home'.

"Let's just hope we don't do our usual of getting people's hopes up and then fail."

Allan hopes to make football fans even more excited for the game tonight as he drives around Bracknell.

It's difficult to say what the score will be in tonight's game but Mr Fazey predicts 2-1 for England.

Thought at first this vehicle was plated, but more probably just a retired HC. 'Old London cab' could be a retired London-style cab, or one that was plated in London but is now plated elsewhere, or simply just one that's getting on a bit :-s

In fact although the headline describes him as a 'taxi driver', I'm not even sure that he's a badged HCD.

Incidentally, hate to be pedantic, but the union jack isn't an England flag. The clue is on the number plate [-(

Union Jack cushions are easy to obtain but St Georges cross less easy besides which we'll need a new flag soon once Scotland leaves

At least the 3 Lions reached the quarter finals unlike another country who play in blue

Nothing pedantic about that.

Union Jack is a UK flag for us all to share. \:D/

Hate to be pedantic, But the Union Jack isn’t a flag, except when flown from the fo’csle (the sharp end) of a British warship.

Indeed, Jimbo, I called it the union flag for a while (not that I used the term very often), but Union
Jack is better understood, so I generally just call it the UJ these days. It's a bit like using 'taxi' rather than 'private hire vehicle', because it's better understood by the great unwashed

And presumably you're aware of the Flag Institute's official guide which disputes your analyis? [-(

And continuing in pedancy mode, I'm surprised no one pointed out that the GB number plate is also inconsistent with the Union Jack, because it's the flag of the Union of Great Britain and Northern Ireland [-(

And for anyone having a dig about the football, please note that for the first time in my life I actually wanted England to do well in a major football tournament  :-o

Think I'll have to draw the line at them actually winning it, though 8-[

Right on cue, the government have announced that the 'GB' designation is to be replaced by 'UK', apparently to be more 'inclusive' of Northern Ireland. This was after the new design had just been introduced six months ago in the wake of Brexit, apparently.

But there's been a bit of a hoohah from pro-GB traditionalists, and this Daily Mail piece gives the impression that the new change is because Sinn Fein complained about Northern Ireland cars having to display GB.

Can't quite work out how appeasing Sinn Fein would entail changing 'GB' to 'UK', but there you go :-s

But anyone interested in the political machinations could maybe read this Daily Mail piece:

'A slap in the face for people who are proud to be Great British': Tory fury at move by Grant Shapps to ditch traditional 'GB' sticker in favour of 'UK' - after Sinn Fein complain

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... ckers.html

• Legal emblem for cars registered in Britain is being changed from GB to UK
• The tweak is due to take effect from September with AA warning of confusion
• Tory MPs branded move a 'slap in the face' for people who are 'proud to be GB'
• The AA motoring firm bemoaned 'losing another element of British motoring'
• Government sources said it is attempt to be 'more inclusive' of Northern Ireland

Think I'll bodyswerve the minutiae of the politics, and just be thankful that it's a good job I don't, and have no intention of, driving abroad =;
