Watch - Raging taxi driver hurls football fan to the floor as he climbs on cab roof after England Euros win https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/m ... s-20966904 (watch video via this link) This is the moment a man celebrating England's momentous 4-0 win against Ukraine was pulled from the top of a taxi by a furious city centre cabbie. The football fan was caught on camera after climbing on top of the cab roof - minutes after England crushed Ukraine to set up a Euro 2020 semi-final showdown with Denmark at Wembley. The raging taxi driver can be seen climbing out of the vehicle, before grabbing the man by the ankles and leaving him to fall to the floor. The cabbie then speeds away, as a bystander lashes out - kicking the car as it moves off. Shouts and screams can be heard from the throngs of people outside the Sun on The Hill pub in Bennetts Hill, Birmingham. The footage was captured by an onlooker less than half-an-hour after full-time. West Midlands Police confirmed officers were not called to the scene, and trouble linked to the football was 'minimal' in the city. It was 'business as usual for a Saturday night', a force spokesman said. Elsewhere, there were scenes of jubilation in Birmingham as England smashed their way through to the semi-finals of Euro 2020. Football fans jumped on the tables, hugged and chanted 'football's coming home' as England rose to victory against Ukraine with an unbelievable 4-0 win. Harry Kane opened the scoring for the Three Lions with the earliest goal England have ever scored at the Euros for 17 years. And the team started the second half of the game in similar style with another goal from Harry Maguire. Harry Kane put another one in the net to take the score to 3-0 before Jordan Henderson added the final goal to England's total. The Three Lions will now take on Denmark in the semi-finals on July 7. |

Quote: The Three Lions will now take on Denmark in the semi-finals on July 7. Anyone working any town/city centre after that game is as nutty as nutty can be. Just remember this clip in Birmingham, and the idiots that attacked taxis in Nottingham last time. Nothing but grief. |

May be easier to view the video via this link: https://cdn.jwplayer.com/players/ONHeiV ... ingdontaxi If you don't catch it first time refreshing the page should help if you can't 'rewind'. (Spent a couple of minutes waiting on the page to load on the Birmingham Mail site, then a thirty-second advert, then when the video appeared a couple of these small pop-up things also appeared, obscuring the action. Then by the time I'd worked out that I'd missed the vital moments it was on to the next video, and don't think you can go back to the original video without reloading the whole page from scratch )

A follow up piece on the Birmingham Mail's website yesterday seems to be based on comments left below the previous piece. It's generally quite sympathetic to the driver, as the headline suggests: 'No respect for bloke trying to earn living' - Reaction after fuming cabbie tackled England fan https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/m ... n-20969674 The taxi driver pulled the celebrating England fan from off his cab roof, causing him to fall to floor in Bennetts Hill in city centre However, we all know how these things can work out at times, and the Mail also cited this comment: Birmingham Mail wrote: But Jack Davies said the taxi driver could have caused serious injury to the England fan. He said: "Hopefully the taxi driver has been reported and a full investigation takes place. That football supporter was lacking mental capacity through alcohol and the taxi driver assaults him. "The supporter could've died or ended up in a wheelchair. The football supporter was in the wrong but the taxi driver overreacted." West Midlands Police confirmed officers were not called to the scene and trouble linked to the football was 'minimal' in the city. So hopefully the police quote at the end suggests that there may be no more official interest in the incident. However, it appears the drunken fan was from Blackburn, and the Lancashire Telegraph has a piece this morning, headlined: Blackburn man thrown from taxi roof celebrating England win https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/n ... gland-win/ A FOOTBALL fan has spoken out about his night out supporting England - which saw him thrown from the top of a taxi after he clambered on it to celebrate. Won't bother with the whole article, but this is the relevant part: Lancashire Telegraph wrote: After going through a repertoire of legendary England anthems including Three Lions by Baddiel and Skinner, some started to sing "on the car, on the car", and an admittedly intoxicated Ashley duly obliged. However, the taxi driver took a dim view of the 'superfan' clambering onto his roof and pulled Ashley's ankle as he tried to get off, causing him to take a heavy fall and land on the pavement. Footage of the incident was shared with the Lancashire Telegraph and shows the unhappy taxi driver attempting to remove the man from his roof before driving off. Ashley said: "Me and my mates went to Birmingham for the weekend to meet a few lads and ended up going to watch the game. "After the game everyone was chanting England songs outside and then taxis were going past and some people were chanting 'on the car, on the car' - obviously me being drunk, I thought it was a bit of fun and I did it. "I honestly thought it was hilarious when I fell off the taxi. I only had a cut on my elbow so it was worth it. "It’s coming home." Ashley understands why the taxi driver was annoyed and despite his potentially catastrophic fall, said he had 'no hard feelings'. Well that's big of him But that's not to say that action won't be taken against the driver, but obviously he was lucky that the drunk wasn't injured. However, some of the comments below the latest article are unsympathetic to the drunk, to say the least Quote: If he had been 'celebrating' on the roof of my car he would have ended up with more than a flaming elbow scratch. His action are nothing short of hooliganism! 'Dancing' on the roof of a car could easily have ended up with the vehicle being scrapped! Quote: Of course he has paid for the damage to the taxi, or has he not? I assume he's being prosecuted for criminal damage too. Assuming he has a job and a car, I bet he would be delighted if someone jumped all over the roof. Oh what a giggle. Quote: I would've danced on his face, he got off EXTREMELY lightly. Quote: "no hard feelings" ? It's the taxi driver who should have the hard feelings at this clown attempting to cause criminal damage to both his property and livelihood. Quote: i cannot imagine the rage i would feel having somebody jumping up and down on my car roof that i need to make a living from. this young man should feel himself very lucky. i hope that the taxi driver now reports the incident as criminal damage/public order or whatever and this chap is given a fine and to pay for any damage caused. Quote: I don't blame the taxi driver one bit for pulling him off!! He'd have got more than that if it was my car. Absolute t*sser! Quite a few more, and can't see any even remotely sympathetic to the hoon. The Lancashire Telegraph coming in for a fair bit of stick as well for publishing an article which seems quite sympathetic to the perp. Anyway, from the driver's perspective hopefully that's the last we'll hear about this one. |

The Birmingham Mail is giving this twonk more oxygen of publicity, and although there are a few critical comments, the tone of the piece certainly isn't too judgemental Of course, a lot of this kind of stuff has the character of 'clickbait', and although it quotes the drunk, the intention may just be to make him look stupid Won't bother with the whole piece, but the quotes from the drunk are interesting There's also another video going around, showing the incident at ground level, and showing the drunk running up the bonnet and windscreen of the cab Joyous England fan who mounted taxi says: 'It's something I do when I'm drunk' https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/m ... d-20984588 Warehouse worker says there no hard feelings after fuming cabbie pushed him off the roof - sending him crashing to floor "After the game everyone was chanting England songs outside and then taxis were going past. "People started shouting: 'On the car, on the car' and my mates were egging me on so, obviously me being drunk, thought it was a bit of fun. "I ran up the bonnet of the car on to the roof. "The taxi driver grabbed me by the ankles, but I can't blame him - there are no hard feelings. "I honestly thought it was hilarious when I fell off the car. I had a cut on my elbow but it was worth it. "Since then, my mates have all seen the video and think it's hilarious. It was my first time in Brum and I'll be back. "I've done it before on a mates car - it's just something I do when I'm drunk."

The ground-level video maybe best viewed here on twitter. The plonk here who's posted it has done it in three different tweets, and obviously thinks it's hilarious, saying: "F*** the taxi guy England won "And he's added the "Football's coming home" tune as background music https://twitter.com/CMZUK/status/141204 ... 02535?s=20 |
