Nothing here to suggest that the driver has been accused of any wrongdoing, but an interesting scenario nonetheless 8-[

Woman taxi passenger helped man steal fridge freezer from building site at 4am

POLICE called to a residential building site by a security guard saw a man and a taxi driver loading a fridge freezer into the back of the cab at 4am.

Blackburn magistrates heard Caraleigh Clarke was sitting in the back of the taxi.

She claimed she had not entered the site or known anything about the origins of the fridge freezer and had just been helping a friend.

Clarke, 28, of Brennan Street, Burnley, was convicted in her absence of handling stolen goods. She was made subject to a curfew for four weeks and ordered to pay £85 costs and £95 victim surcharge.

Stacey Morrow, prosecuting, said the security guard was working at a residential development where some of the houses were occupied and others were nearing completion.

He did a foot patrol in the early hours, noticed a rear door of a house had been damaged and called the police.

"When the police arrived they saw a vehicle with the boot open and two men were loading a fridge freezer in," said Miss Morrow.

"One of the males was her co-accused and the other was the taxi driver. She was sitting in the car."

Clarke told police she had a call from a friend who asked if she would help him move a fridge. She got a taxi to the site and the fridge freezer was at the side of the road.

Mark Williams, defending, said his client had got a call from the male, who had been dealt with by the courts, asking her to go along with him to collect the item.

"She didn't really know what was going on and didn't stand to gain anything from the sale of the fridge freezer," said Mr Williams.

"It is accepted that 4am isn't the usual time to pick up this item."

How stupid is that driver? Or is he a crook?

You don't go to a building late at night and help people load stuff into your cab. ](*,)

I remember a taxi driver in Lincoln back in the eighties helped a passenger load “his” safe into the taxi.

It never got that far. He was as dim as a toc h lamp. You can’t lose your licence for being stupid, or I would have lost mine years ago, I’ll say, before anyone else does.
