Not much on the 'taxi' angle here other than in the headline and that he lost his job with Uber.

But I'm guessing his badge was either suspended or revoked, but there's zero information on the licensing angle.

A man demanded his new wife obey his 'command' before threatening to disclose intimate videos and attack her parents.

Shzanur Rahman 'saw red' when his bride of just one month ended their relationship after she was asked to leave his family home because she had Covid-19.

The 30-year-old former Uber driver from Small Heath gave his partner, who thought she was pregnant, an ultimatum; to return under his conditions and look after his mother and sister or get an Islamic divorce signing a 'contract' giving him the 'rights' to their future baby.

Rahman embarked on a campaign of making violent threats via email, WhatsApp, telephone call and voice mail, against the victim and her family, including sending a menacing picture of himself holding a meat cleaver.

She eventually called police who arrested him. Rahman, of Coventry Road, pleaded guilty to coercive and controlling behaviour, stalking and threatening communication.

But he avoided being sent to prison 'by the skin of his teeth' at Birmingham Crown Court, on Friday, August 8, despite the fact his now former partner is still suffering psychologically from the 'trauma' of their relationship.

Instead, he was handed a 12-month jail sentence suspended for two years.

The couple got married in February last year but the following month the victim started showing signs of Covid-19 and was asked to leave, returning to her own family in another part of the country. They continued to talk on the phone and shortly after she told Rahman she thought she was pregnant.

He began verbally abusing her, calling her a 'b****' and 's***' then demanded she answer his calls 'to protect her family', said prosecutor Maninder Chaggar who added: "It caused her a lot of distress and she felt compelled to take his call.

"He said, start working, be a housewife, look after my mother and sister. The only way she could come back to him was living under his command and being obedient to him.

"Or he said get an Islamic divorce on the condition she sign a contract to say she gave the rights of the baby, when the baby was born, to the defendant."

When the victim 'scoffed' at the choice Rahman warned he would distribute intimate pictures, as well as videos she had not consented to. He boasted they would be sent to her family to 'break them'.

By May last year his relentless barrage of abuse had ramped up, including threats to do her 'irreversible damage', 'f*** you up', shoot her family and harm her mother.

At one point Rahman switched his attention to his father-in-law and claimed he would kill him, the court was told.

Ms Chaggar said: "Particularly distressing was a message she received showing the defendant holding what looks like a meat cleaver in his hand, holding it to his leg."

When arrested, Rahman admitted sending the messages but denied they were harassing or intimidating in nature.

Sukhdev Garcha, defending, said: "He now accepts his behaviour and makes no attempt to minimise or make excuses. He accepts it is unacceptable. He lashed out.

"The relationship had its ups and down. He saw red and wasn't thinking straight. His head was all over the place. He was smoking cannabis at the time. There is remorse. He feels a whole lot of regret. He should have left it, let her go and not involved her family.

"There is usually some element of blame on the complainant but here the young man accepts what he has done and what he has put her and her family through."

He stated Rahman had lost his job at Uber and was now doing a management course at the University of Wales.

Recorder Sprawson told the defendant he had 'demeaned and domineered' his wife branding the threat to disclose intimate videos as particularly 'appalling'.

But he suspended the sentence after taking into account the fact he pleaded guilty, has not re-offended since and his previously clean record.

Rahman must complete 15 days of rehabilitation activity and adhere to a three-month curfew. A five-year restraining order was also imposed.

Stuart it's a cultural thing in islamic society women are expected to stay with their husband no matter what and a man who doesn't keep control over his wife is considered to be weak and not honourable

this sort of posturing is a way of saving face amongst his peers

What a load of bollocks, victim shaming is a disgraceful act from the defence barrister. [-X

Problem is most bullies/cowards/scumbags like him have no idea how serious the courts now view these offences.

He was very very very lucky the judge suspended his sentence.
