Two charged after Nottingham taxi driver assaulted and robbed

Two men are due to appear in court in connection with an assault on a taxi driver.

It is reported that the assault happened in Wollaton Road, Lenton, just before 11.25pm on Saturday (18 September 2021).

The taxi is also reported to have been damaged during the incident, and a quantity of cash and pair of glasses were also taken.

A quantity of cannabis was also recovered following the incident, which happened just before 11.25pm.

Ishfaq Ahmed, 44, of Sandmere Grove, Birmingham and Basharat Hussain, 46, of Keswick Road, Solihull, have since been charged with assault by beating, criminal damage and theft.

Ahmed has also further been charged with a public order offence, assaulting an emergency worker and possession of cannabis.

They have been released on conditional bail pending an appearance at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 6 October 2021.

Detective Sergeant Nick Wood, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Two men have now been charged in connection with this incident and we continue our investigation.

“We always treat reports of assault seriously, and particularly when it comes to assaults on emergency workers and those who work hard to serve the public and keep them safe.”
