Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with the incident

A taxi driver was found lying in the street following an assault in Nottingham city centre.

The man was allegedly attacked from behind after a dispute with customers when stopping on Castle Meadow Road, Broadmarsh, at around 12.15pm on Sunday (October 31).

Passers-by stopped to help and called the emergency services before the man was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.

Detective Sergeant Chris Berryman, from Nottinghamshire Police, said officers worked quickly to get to the scene and search the area.

He said: "This behaviour is unacceptable, and we will always act swiftly when we receive such reports like this.

"We hope the efficiency of our officers shown here offers reassurance to communities of just how seriously we take these reports.

“Our enquiries are ongoing and as we investigate this further, we would urge anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone with any information, or particularly dashcam footage which may have captured the incident, to get in touch on 101, quoting incident 431 of October 31, 2021.”

Police said an 18-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy were arrested in Clumber Street in connection with the incident.

A knife was also recovered and the 14-year-old was further arrested on suspicion of possessing a bladed article.

They have since been released on conditional bail pending further enquiries.
