Thread title makes sense - just :?

But, and as a few in the comments are saying, as a branding exercise for a cab firm, it's maybe a bit clunky, and doesn't exactly slip off the tongue :P

And presumably it should be Sid's rather than Sids, but, hey, what's wrong with the odd stray apostrophe.

I mean, even bookshop Waterstones has dumped the apostrophe from Waterstone's, so why not Sids in Stoke :-o

Stoke-on-Trent taxi firm doubles in size after taking over rival

A taxi company has doubled the number of cars it has on the road after taking over a rival firm.

ABC ACE Supreme, based in Burslem, has merged with Sids Taxis so it can provide a 'better service' to its customers. ABC, ACE and Supreme had once operated as three separate taxi companies but they have amalgamated over the years to form one firm. Now, following the recent merger, the company will be known as ABC ACE Sids.

Director Paul Wilkes said: "ABC was my dad's company and in 2002 I took it over with my brother Neil. We acquired the Supreme taxi firm and in 2018, we merged with ACE which is why we called ourselves ABC ACE Supreme. Now we're bringing Sids into the business too."

Fifty year-old Paul, who lives in Alsager, added: "ABC is predominantly a transport business with mini buses and coaches. We also do a lot of contracted work with the NHS and ERS Medical transporting patients to the cancer centre and renal department at the hospital.

"Only 25 per cent of our business comes from the taxi side of things. So merging with Sids will mean we can enhance our taxi business and provide a better service to a wider range of customers."

Following the merger, ABC now boasts a fleet of 100 cars and 100 drivers who are available to serve customers across Stoke-on-Trent and Staffordshire. The enlarged company will operate across two bases - its Furlong Lane headquarters in Burslem and Sids' existing base on the Holditch Industrial Estate in Chesterton.

Paul – who runs the business with fellow director Banaras Hussain – said: "Previously, we were so busy with the work we do for the NHS and local schools that we would have struggled if someone needed picking up from Morrisons, but now we will be able to do that because Sids operate a well-known, reputable taxi business."

He added: "It's no secret that there's a shortage of taxi drivers. A lot of drivers left the industry during the Covid-19 pandemic and did not return, and those who stayed are now being faced with rising costs such as petrol and taxi licence fees.

"So we hope that, by doubling the size of the business, we will have more taxis available to serve more customers across Stoke-on-Trent and Newcastle."

As part of the merger, ABC ACE Sids has unveiled a new logo and has combined its systems meaning customers can book a taxi by calling one of three phone numbers – 01782 822228, 01782 565200 or 01782 900900. Alternatively, download the new ABC ACE Sids app.

Can never work out why cab firms fanny around with names.

The only important thing is the number, so why not just be called 900 900 cars or 123456 cabs.

I disagree with that; the name makes a difference as that is what "carries" the reputation

Brand names and numbers historically important, but which one is the more important will depend on on how it's developed locally.

But obviously many such businesses hope for a degree of continuity with their branding to retain the customer base, so they try to incorporate the old brands into the new name, which is why it often ends up sounding a bit clunky :?
