Taxi driver's licence revoked after hiding fact that he was banned from roads for drug driving https://www.grimsbytelegraph.co.uk/news ... er-6225319 The driver had a 12 month driving ban A North East Lincolnshire taxi driver has had their licence revoked after they failed to declare a previous conviction that saw them disqualified from driving for a year. The driver failed to declare to the Council's licensing team that they had been charged with driving whilst under the influence of drugs. At a meeting of the North East Lincolnshire Council’s Hackney Carriage Sub Committee, the decision was taken to revoke the licence due to the severity of the crime and failure to declare it. Members of the committee said the decision was taken to ensure the safety of passengers when taking taxis in the Grimsby and Cleethorpes area. Councillor Stephen Harness, Chair of the Hackney Carriage Sub Committee, said: “We take these matters very seriously. Passenger safety is our top priority. “The majority of taxi drivers in our area take their job very seriously and abide by the highest of standards.” |

I’d take drugs if I had to live in Grimsby.

Maybe they're in Cleethorpes though Which I'm sure it's a great place, because they used to have a Butlin's, didn't they?

Nothing to suggest he actually drove while banned, though. And not even entirely clear if he was badged when the offence took place - could conceviably have happened prior to his badge being granted, but it didn't come to light at the time somehow, but has subsequently been unearthed by a DBS check? Quote: At a meeting of the North East Lincolnshire Council’s Hackney Carriage Sub Committee... Does that mean they have separate sub-committees for HCs and PHVs? But wouldn't be surprised if the sub-committee does in fact deal with both codes, and that the driver is actually a PHD, rather than the HCD I've assumed for the thread title

OK, the slightly roundabout replies give the impression that there never was a Butlins in Cleethorpes, so I checked with Wikipedia, and indeed that confirms I got it wrong. Well recall a family holiday to Butlins in Ayr, c. 1970. Thought I was in paradise

Did think that was what you meant, Jimbo, but you simply answered 'no' to this: StuartW wrote: Which I'm sure it's a great place, because they used to have a Butlin's, didn't they? So wasn't 100% sure if you meant Cleethorpes wasn't a great place, there was never a Butlin's there, or both. |

Anyway, the offical council news release seems to just reflect the press rehash above, but this stuck out, which doesn't seem to be disclosed above: North East Lincolnshire wrote: They failed to then disclose this conviction to North East Lincolnshire Council’s licensing team and continued to operate as a taxi driver. Which of course begs all sorts of questions about driving while banned by the courts and what happened with regard to that etc, but which isn't mentioned at all in the news release. Had a look for the minutes, but no sign, and didn't want to spend too much time down that particular rabbit hole, but this is the news release: https://www.nelincs.gov.uk/taxi-drivers ... onviction/ |

So wasn't 100% sure if you meant Cleethorpes wasn't a great place, there was never a Butlin's there, or both. Surely the pedant in you would recognise that the first half of your sentence was a statement, “which I’m sure is a great place” and the second half is a question, which I answered with a no. |

Yes, the first part was a statement, but if you reply to a statment with 'No', then surely that means you're disagreeing with the statement? And presumably if you were unambiguously confining your answer to my Butlin's question, you wouldn't have quoted the whole sentence? |
